What can go into a dumpster in Langley?

The hauler and receiving facility set load, weight and contamination rules. Tell the provider exactly what you are loading and where it will be taken before booking.

Keep reusable, recyclable, compostable and hazardous materials separate. Metro Vancouver disposal bans and surcharges apply to garbage delivered in the region.

Common loads (confirm first)

  • Non-reusable household junk
  • Furniture accepted by the selected hauler and facility
  • Construction debris approved for the selected facility
  • Clean wood, gypsum, metal and yard trimmings kept in separate streams

Keep out unless specifically approved

  • Asbestos, chemicals, fuels and other hazardous waste
  • Batteries, electronics, propane cylinders, paint and used oil
  • Food scraps and recyclable materials banned from garbage
  • Tires, mattresses, gypsum and appliances mixed into general waste

Never conceal restricted material in a mixed load. Use an approved stewardship depot or receiving facility.

Who handles residential collection?

Langley City serves eligible single-family and non-strata homes; commercial and multi-family properties arrange service privately. The Township provides recycling broadly, while municipal garbage, Green Cart and large-item service only apply inside its collection areas or to participating complexes.

Typical curbside frequency

For eligible homes in both municipalities:

  • Garbage is collected every other week
  • Organics or Green Cart material is collected weekly
  • Separated containers, paper and glass recycling is collected weekly
  • Set carts and recycling out by 7:30 a.m. on the scheduled day

Always check the address calendar. A Township calendar showing recycling only usually means the property is outside municipal garbage and organics service.

Large-item pickup, dumpster rental or drop-off?

Eligible households in both Langley municipalities can book up to four large items per calendar year, but accepted items differ. Other properties need private service or self-haul.

Municipal large-item pickup

For eligible residential properties

Langley City limits its program to detached single-family homes and does not accept mattresses. Township eligibility requires municipal garbage service and allows up to two wrapped mattresses among the four annual items.

Placing dumpsters and storage bins

Keep rented containers entirely on suitable private property whenever possible. Langley City and the Township control different roads and public rights-of-way, and neither publishes one general-purpose online dumpster permit for all situations.

Do not schedule delivery onto a road, lane, sidewalk or boulevard until the correct municipal engineering or transportation office confirms whether placement is allowed and what approval is required.

Confirm the jurisdiction

  • Verify whether the address is in Langley City or the Township.
  • Ask the bin provider to propose a private-property placement first.
  • For public land, provide the location, dates, dimensions and traffic-control needs to the municipality.

Protect public access

  • Do not obstruct sidewalks, driveways, fire hydrants, intersections or travel lanes.
  • Township boulevards are municipal property and parking on them is prohibited.
  • Follow every municipal condition and arrange prompt removal when work is complete.
