What can go into a dumpster in Belcarra?

WARD is for separated residential materials and is not a construction dumpster. For a rented bin, identify every material and confirm the receiving facility before booking.

Construction and demolition waste, hazardous waste, large appliances, mattresses, tires, soil and many other trade-waste materials are not accepted as ordinary household garbage at WARD.

Common private-bin loads (confirm first)

  • Bagged non-recyclable household garbage
  • Furniture accepted by the chosen hauler and receiving facility
  • Approved construction and renovation debris
  • Separated clean wood, metal, gypsum, concrete and other recoverable materials sent to an appropriate facility

Keep out unless specifically approved

  • Food scraps, green waste, cardboard and recyclable containers
  • Paint, solvents, fuels, batteries, pesticides and biomedical waste
  • Electronics, propane cylinders, used oil and other stewardship products
  • Asbestos-containing material, contaminated soil and liquids

Never conceal hazardous or restricted material. Ask the hauler and receiving facility about testing, packaging and advance approval.

How residential service works

Residents sort and self-haul household materials to WARD. The facility page currently lists dedicated containers for cardboard, organics/green waste, household waste, mixed recyclables and electronics.

WARD access and sorting rules

Check current signs and notices every visit because available bins can temporarily change:

  • WARD is near the Public Works Yard and Village Hall at 4084 Bedwell Bay Road
  • Posted operating hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Tuesday; the depot is closed Wednesdays
  • Access is limited to authorized users; vehicle access uses a Village-issued security token
  • Sort every load into the designated container and never leave material outside a bin
  • The published bylaw limits domestic garbage to two conventional bags in any four-calendar-day period

The Village posts outages and changes when a bin is unavailable. Confirm the live WARD page before taking material to the depot.

Large items, dumpster rental or junk removal?

Belcarra’s bylaw allows the Village to schedule tagged large-item pickup and roadside chipping on designated dates, but these are not regular weekly services. Check current Village notices before placing anything roadside.

Village special collection

Only when dates and rules are announced

Obtain any required disposal tag and follow the announced material, size, placement and timing rules. Do not set items out based only on a past event.

Placing dumpsters and storage containers

Keep a rented container entirely on suitable private property whenever possible. Occupying a municipal road allowance requires advance approval from the Village.

Belcarra’s Road Use Permit application expressly covers temporary road use of less than 60 days. Contact Village Hall before delivery so staff can confirm whether the proposed bin location requires a permit, drawings, fees, security deposit or other conditions.

Plan private-property placement

  • Keep the container and collection truck within the property.
  • Protect septic systems, drainage, utilities, trees and soft ground.
  • Maintain fire access, sightlines and safe pedestrian movement.

If public space may be affected

  • Apply before reserving or delivering the container.
  • Provide the site, proposed dates, dimensions and a description or drawing.
  • Follow all safety, security, restoration and removal conditions.
